WASHINGTON — NASA is taking a break in the deployment of the James Webb Space Telescope after successfully extending booms for the spacecraft’s sunshield.
NASA said Jan. 1 it would wait a day before beginning the process of tensioning the five-layer sunshield, getting it into its final form and ensuring the layers are separated from each other. That effort was originally rescheduled for Jan. 2, but NASA later said it was further delaying the start of the tensioning by an additional day to spend time “optimizing Webb’s power systems while learning more about how the observatory behaves in space.

SALT LAKE CITY – The deck on Mark Shea’s Sugar House home is completed now, but he’s had to pay for it twice. The man he initially paid for the work stopped showing up, so Shea said he had to hire someone else to finish the job. Making matters worse, he says what little work had been done was not done to code.
“These were not installed correctly,” Shea said of some of the support beams the deck was to rest on.
OSHKOSH, Wis. (WLUK) — Authorities are investigating a mid-air collision involving two aircrafts at the EAA AirVenture show in Wisconsin on Saturday.
Officials have not said if anyone was injured in the crash.
Dick Knapinski, director of communications for EAA, said it happened at 12:24 p.m. at the south end of the EAA AirVenture flight line at Wittman Regional Airport. The crash shut down aircraft operations at the airport for about two hours, but the afternoon air show was underway a little after 2:30 p.

Salt Lake City Police Department arrested 26-year-old Jonathan Simonji who is accused of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl.
On Saturday, Jan 21, at 3:08 a.m. dispatch received a call from someone with the SafeUT app who said a 14-year-old girl had been picked up by an adult and was being held against her will in a home near 300 West 700 North.
